About Just Specialties Fine Food

Cathy Schreiber, Owner Cathy Schreiber Owner

Welcome to Just Specialties Fine Food... we’re glad you’ve found us! I’m Cathy Schreiber, founder and President, and I’d like to share briefly the story of our company. That story is closely linked with my own...

My story begins in a way familiar to many other chefs: my grandmother and mother were excellent cooks and bakers, and I somehow learned to bake at home without being purposefully “taught”— it just seemed to happen, as far as I recall. Ours was the house with the homemade lemon meringue pies, cream puffs (“profiteroles”, as I later learned to call them), German chocolate cakes, decorated Christmas cookies and popcorn balls which the neighborhood kids were allowed to eat at Halloween because their parents knew they came from Mrs. Kennelly's house. Somehow, baking and sweet treats have been a natural and intuitive part of my life for a long time.

A Delicious Idea Whose Time Has Come

The road to Just Specialties Fine Food wasn’t nearly as natural and intuitive. This road traveled through college, graduate business school, and a career in marketing for an architectural firm. The road then forked (sorry, couldn’t resist!): leaving it all for culinary school, living and working in Australia, New Zealand, England and Japan, returning to “corporate America” after several years as a pastry chef, and—finally!—the concept for Just Specialties Fine Food and our first product—The Truffle Kit.

At Just Specialties Fine Food, our goal is to blend a love of extraordinary desserts and confections with the ability to make these more accessible to others. We focus on quality first and always. We approach all of our product development with you, our customer, in mind. We want you to feel you have a partner in the kitchen, and we prepare our materials to take you every step of the way.

In the months and years ahead, look for new products that bring other “Old World Classics” to your kitchen. You never know where these can take you—a package of homemade croissants with orange marmalade butter was the first gift I gave the man who became my husband, and that worked out pretty well for me.

Bon Appetit!
